Motorcycle Helmet Laws May Soon Change

 Monday April 4, 2011

(Lansing, MI) -- Motorcyclists who oppose the state’s helmet law are optimistic that they'll soon be able to ride without the protective headgear. Two bills pending in the Michigan Legislature would scale back the state's 42-year-old helmet law. The first bill would allow riders 21 or older to ride helmetless if they carry at least 20 thousand dollars in person injury insurance. The second bill states that helmets would not be required for riders 21 or older who have passed a motorcycle safety course. There's no word on when the Legislature will vote on the bills.
