AC/DC Drummer’s Pot Conviction Overturned

OFF THE WIRE

Phil Rudd, the 56-year-old drummer of AC/DC, has had his cannabis conviction overturned by a court in his adopted homeland of New Zealand on the grounds that it would have interfered with his travel plans with the band.
Rudd appeared in Tauranga District Court on Thursday (March 31) seeking to have the 2010 conviction for possession of not-even-an-ounce of pot stricken from his record. Rudd is a first time offender…and a hell of a drummer.
Rudd has pleaded guilty to the charge late last year, and was fined $190 plus $101 in court costs after failing in his bid for a discharge without conviction.
I guess having a pot conviction on his record would have prevented him from touring with AC/DC and basically cut into his livelihood. And I’m right.
At last week’s hearing, Rudd’s attorney argued that having such a blemish on his criminal record would restrict the rocker’s ability to enter some countries, particularly the United States, Canada and Japan.
