Australia - Foundation hosts fundraiser that’s a biker’s dream

NORTH SYDNEY — Plans are underway for the Northside Hospital Foundation's third custom bike draw in support of health care on the Northside.

Out of a small motorcycle customizing and build shop came a huge undertaking for a 25-year-old entrepreneur from Howie Centre. Torque Speed Shop owner Matt Dilney has created a motorcycle that will be given away during the third annual Cape Breton Bikefest Show in July.
The motorcycle began as a 2011 Harley Davidson Street Glide but has been customized and is now called the “Thunder Glide” and features a GPS navigation system and DVD player, an air-ride system and new DuPont Cromax Pro, a waterborne paint system.
“Besides being a great honour, the Thunder Glide means so much to me because no one will ever experience what I have working on the bike, but some lucky person sure will have a great time cruising in the open wind, knowing that no matter how many bikes pass by, there won't be another Thunder Glide,” Dilney said. “This project is important, too, because it shows that cool things do happen in Cape Breton. Other than the exhaust, everything was done in-house.”
The Northside/Harborview Hospital Foundation has spent more than $1 million purchasing equipment for the Northside General and Harbour View hospitals.
The list of equipment varies from a Ritter examination table and a Dynamap mobile monitor for the emergency room, a LiteGait unit for rehab services at Harbourview, to a high-speed otology drill system, the only one in the Cape Breton District Health Authority. The otology drill allows for complicated ear and sinus surgeries.
This year’s winner will receive an enclosed trailer from Cape Breton Trailer Sales, valued at $5,000, to tow their motorcycle. The Thunder Glide will be given away on July 31 during the “Storm the Fortress” event at the Fortress of Louisbourg.

Tickets are now on sale for $40 each and can be purchased at various locations in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality by visiting the foudation website at http://www.northsidehospitalfoundation.ca/.
